The new MEC store is the flagship store in the Lower Mainland. It was built to capture the spirit of MEC’s corporate vision, “energy, enthusiasm, community and an atmosphere of diversity, inclusiveness, and infinite possibilities.” The project consists of 2 levels of below grade parking, approx. 50,000 sq. ft. of retail on two levels and a third level housing MEC staff facilities and market retail office space of 15,000 sq. ft. The building is concrete with heavy timber superstructure.
The HVAC is supplied by way of the roof top air handlers with heat pumps connected to the Southeast False Creek neighborhood energy utility (NEU). Exterior finished is a combination of concrete, cementitious panels and steel siding. It also includes glue laminated timber interior canopies, a cross laminated timber retail partition system, office furnishings and retail fixtures.
